    Die for Polycarbonate

I want to make a die for injection molding polycarbonate. Do I need any special coating on the die? It is my understanding that flow temperature polycarbonate is not corrosive, is that correct? Thank you.

PC is not corrosive. Use good quality tool steel and you should be fine. If this is to be a high volume tool you might want to put the gates on hardened inserts so they can be replaced if they wash out (PC is a bit abrasive).

    GATES!!!!
We are not using any gates as the mold is very simple geometry. I want to reduce any metal sliding and limit it to ejector pins to reduce microscopic wear metal particles as flowing PC will absorb these. We will cut the sprue after molding with other second operations. It will be a low volume tool making ( 500-1000 units per run per year). Thank you again.
