    Light Transmission Through Part

    Good evening fellow professionals,

I am a rookie injection molding process engineer fresh out of school. I am currently working on a project that involves a clear part being able to allow passage of light in the 300-400nm range. My team and I are testing different grades of Polystyrene, where the optical properties are identical and the only major difference lies in the MFR value (1.6, 3.0, 8.0, and 14.0 g/10min), and as such, presumably the MW. I was wondering if there were perhaps methods to use in the processing of this amorphous material to make it more translucent and more able to transmit light.

Thank you in advance for your contributions

Typically, with amorphous material, processing will not make a difference. You need to make sure that the the mold is highly polished.
Let us know what you find.
