Nylon 6 Brittle parts
Hi every one, I am not so experinced at Injection molding, we are facing an issue with a new part for us, the parts are brittle and the issue was just discovered. Several process changes has been done but the issue remains almost in the same level. Any advice you can provide?
Thanks in advance

Re: Nylon 6 Brittle parts
Unfortunately Nylon is a hygroscopic material. It will dry out and become brittle. In the past I have worked at places where we had to add water to the parts just before shipping so this would not happen. It has been a long time since I worked with nylon so maybe someone can suggest an additive or possible an alloy to help you. I would talk to your material rep on this issue.

Re: Nylon 6 Brittle parts
We are using climatic chamber where we put parts after molding on 24h, 90% humidity and 55C. After process they are more flexible and harder to brake.
So far we have good resaults with this metod.

Equally important is to make sure you are not over drying the material prior to production. A nylon 6/6 or heat stabilized nylon may yield better performance.
