Re: drying parameters for technomelt PA 638

I looked the resin up and it says NOTHING about drying it!? It tells you to place it in an airtight container ASAP when opening the packaging.
I did notice that this resin carries a FR rating....

    Re: Floppy parts

Are you sure that you are running the same resin? Maybe the talc content is on the low end when you've been getting it at the high end of the spec?
Excessive temperature and residence time will kill...
  3. Re: Disturbance in drive of central mold height

Is this a toggle clamp press? Maybe the drive can't rotate the nuts on the end of the tie bars? Have they been greased with the proper lubricant? All of this is relevant if this is a toggle press. ...

    Re: IMM and Robot connection

I think you only need to send permit mold close from robot, ejector or core move out/forward and return; from the press, cycle start for the robot, mold open, ejector/core IN and OUT and cycle...

    Re: Flexing a living hinge

In the past I did this, not on the EOAT, though there's nothing wrong with that approach; but, with two pieces of aluminum on a bracket mounted across the conveyor. I took the robot and ran the parts...

Re: Part have a join line!

Please share some process settings with us and answer these quick quick questions. Does the mold have any valve gates? Does the mold have multiple gates to fill the part? Can you confirm that the...

    Re: PVC Moisture content

PVC isn't hygroscopic so I've never seen it dried. I would bet one of your additives is carrying the moisture or its shear or residence generated. For shear, I'd expect a narrow area or sharp corner...

Re: Injection Profile Engel Emotion 310

Have you looked at the Microplast graph and seen exactly where the peak pressure ocurrs? You could be hitting the end of the cavity or the pressure peaks there due to the melt temperature being too...

    Re: Heat Stake Inserts

Are you sure the hole is properly sized? Does it have some taper and you're pushing it in from the smallest diameter? Is the insert designed for heat staking or ultrasonic staking? Are you using too...

    Re: Viscosity Study

For me, a press of this vintage has wear in the pumps, bleed off of pressure through manifold blocks and valve stacks, not to mention leakage of hydraulic oil across the injection cylinder(s). Hence...

    PSA for all Molders.

    Hello All,
I just wanted to perform a PSA for the group. If you EVER wake up or develop a dark spot in one eye, call or go sit in the waiting room of your Optometrist! I had one in my right eye that...

    Re: Color Shift

Colorant probably has the wrong carrier resin in it. Most likely, they're using HDPE and its not liking the base resin. Either that or they used a pigment package in the color that isn't high heat...
  14. Re: “Splay” issue on PA66 GF30% with UV stabiliser.

So your 'splay', should be the UV stabilizer being damaged or consumed in the barrel due to the high barrel temps, mold temps, and residence time. I've seen this many times when running UV or FR...
  15. Re: Creaking Sound and tool to platen wear, Engel Tie Bar Less.

One question: Does this press have the 'scroll block' deflection system or the newer one looking two or more blocks?
I have never seen this on the scroll block style but with the newer ones I have...

    Re: preform tail breakout

Maybe you have molded in stress causing the issue? A polarized light source and filter inspection could point out high molded in stress levels. I have also used chemicals like mold cleaner to...

    Re: Insert molding metal terminals

I believe you will need to tweak the terminal design to ensure the melt flow and cavity pressure doesn't damage them. But, if not properly supported in the mold; they can move and may get twisted or...

    Re: M.F.R. Question

I remember a resin supplier at one time would pull samples and watch the MFR of the resin. Typically you get low at the start- of a production run and high at the end. So they would go back and post...

    Re: Shop recommendations

You also need to discuss the tolerances because that will dictate final costs. Also, can you use UHMWPE instead to save money on the parts? Even machining for those small quantities will be hard for...
  22. Re: Round pieces injection resulting squared problem

Where is the gate? Gate size? Gate style? Mold and melt temps? What's the part length? Normally these are extruded due to these reasons.

  23. Re: Intermittent screeching noise during plasticising stage

Does the press have a high torque screw plasticizing settings? If so I would turn it on. I would see if you can see the actual screw drive pressure/energy while plasticizing. I would bet that the...
