Heating contactors

Is there any issues with swapping out Mercury contactors with solid state relays on older machines that you guys are aware of? As long as you match the coil voltage and the amperage rating , are you good to go? I'm asking about the barrel heating circuit s just to clarify.

We have had problems with the Mercury contactors getting stuck causing runaway temps , safety hazards when you turn the barrel heats off and a contactor is stuck on,disposal issues with getting rid of old contactors and just eliminating the mechanical issues of a Mercury contactors. Also the new presses we have installed in the last 10 years have all had ssr's controlling the heats

Only one issue. You MUST mount the SSR's onto an aluminum heat sink using the heat transfer paste. They generate lots of heat and if you don't use a heat sink the cabinet temp may increase enough to start having issues plus premature SSR failure. I'd mount them to the inside of the doors like Engel does for max cooling of the relays.
