Hi, I am completely new to plastic design. My background is in structural drafting but I would love to learn everything about plastic mold design. I have looked around to find some related courses in my local community college, but with no luck. Please advise as to what books, websites, software recommendation, courses, tools I should star with in order for me to get the ball roiling.

Please keep in mind that I know absolutely nothing about the plastic manufacturing, so any advice would be extremely helpful.

Thank you very much in advance.

-Jay

Hello Jay,
My best advice is to take a few courses via continuing education at UMASS Lowell. https://continuinged.uml.edu/plastics/
It will cost you but you will get a good foundation about all the aspects of molding. There are 5 aspects that you need to know to be successful in Injection molding. Part Design is one of them. The others are: Plastic Materials, Mold Design and Build, the Molding Machines and the Molding Process.
All the best and thanks for being a member here!

I agree with Suhas. Robert Malloy of the U-Mass Lowell Plastics department wrote the "bible of part design".
