Hello all!

Excellent resource here! I'm a total noobie concerning injection, so here's my question:

I'm looking at at trying to build myself a few lens filters for a DSLR. 77mm diameter, with a look similar to this:

http://www.amazon.com/58mm-Clear-Haze-Multi-Resistant-Coating/dp/B0000BZL68/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1362596309&sr=8-4&keywords=lens+filter

I was wondering if this machine would be adequate to inject the FRAME (black ring) of the filter: http://www.techkits.com/pim/#BUYIT

My last question is, what type of plastic I should I inject for durability/black color?

Thanks!

Doesn't that ring screw on? That will be hard to do in a two plate mold. Not to mention warpage, breaking knit lines and cosmetic issues. I think you might want to try another hobby.
Rick.

Hi JamesonBlade,

Polycarbonate is probably your best choice.
Having said that, Since you are new to Injection Molding - Are you rich? :) Building a mold is very expensive a single cavity mold for a ring like this would be - for a GOOD mold - about 30-40K USD. Plus every trial you take, the molder will charge you about $800. I say Good in caps because of the issues Rick mentions and also the precession you will require. I myself am an avid photographer and own a number of lenses.
We are just making you aware buddy. Any more help we are here.
