I have a question on overmolding a new part. The scenario is as
follows: We will be injection molding pvc, 50 durometer from alpha
gary, onto a radel or ultem insert. We make the radel/ultem inserts
in our machine shop. Our product folks would like to use a primer to
ensure cohesive bonding of the pvc to the radel/ultem inserts. They
would like to treat the radel/ultem inserts prior to molding. The inserts
have mechanical locking features machined into them already. Does anyone
know of an acceptable primer to apply to get a good bond between the pvc
and radel/ultem inserts? Thanks.

Hi Raystowntool,

Here is something I found: http://www.reltekllc.com/adhesives-for-polyetherimide.html- and here is a copy-paste that will help you."Our recommendation would change if you are overmolding or if there are other special adhesive needs.
If overmolding, we would recommend priming the substrate with our
BONDiTTM A-43. An example would be molding either, thermoplastic polyurethane, two-part urethane rubber or rubbers in general such as EPDM to UHMW.

Or, if exceptional chemical resistance is desired, we would recommend the BONDiTTM B-481 or B-4811."

Hope this helps. I would for sure call the ULTEM guys also and ask their advice.

Regards,
Suhas
