Hello,

Following up from the most recent post (http://www.injectionmoldingonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1011). Does anyone have any info or opinions on Thermomolding as an alternative solution to Injection Molding?

We are a small company that doesn't have a ton of resources, but we need to be able to produce a particular part with tool-level usability and longevity.

The tool is essentially a 4 in x 4 inch x 1.25 inch block with 8 apertures. It's a fairly simple design, currently in .STL and .STEP formats that we've been using to 3D print the prototypes. We don't need a solid block of plastic, we just need the core functionalities the tool offers.

Any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

Thermoforming does not give you accurate dimensions. The control is very difficult if you want to make say 100,000 parts. That is the main disadvantage. The mold can be fairly simple. There is also a lot of waste from the trimmings. Other than that, you will need to work out the economics.
